The search for new foster carers in East Sussex continues this month with another information and recruitment event organised by East Sussex County Council.
Staff from the Council's Fostering Service are urging anyone who wants to find out more about caring for a child, to come along to the informal drop-in event being held at The Civic Centre in Uckfield, on Thursday 11 October, from 5pm to 8pm, with tea, coffee and cookies.
Recently, the Fostering Service was given a glowing report by Ofsted inspectors, who graded the service ‘outstanding' in every area. Staff from the service will be on hand to talk about all aspects of becoming a foster carer.
The event will have information about all the different types of short term or permanent fostering, as well as fostering for parents and babies, and for disabled children. It will also explain about all the different types of support and training that is available to foster carers.
Local foster carers will also be there, so that visitors can chat and find out first-hand what fostering really means: about the rewards – and the challenges!
Jane and Andy visited one of the events held earlier this year: "The session was informal and relaxed, and we felt we got an honest and realistic insight into fostering. We'd recommend anyone who's thinking about fostering to go along and have a chat to both social workers and foster carers and find out if it is for them".
If you have ever thought about helping a local child in need, then you may be surprised at how many different ways there are to get involved – and all the support that's available to help you do it.
Foster carers come from all walks of life and from all kinds of backgrounds. The one thing they all have in common is a genuine desire to make a difference to a young person's life. If you think you could help a child, then please attend this event.

Further information
The October event is one of a series of recruitment events, which have been running throughout 2012 on the second Thursday of the month. The next one is set for 8 November, at the Lansdowne Hotel, King Edward's Parade, Eastbourne.
Every year, the County Council places a number of children and teenagers, who cannot live with their birth families for a variety of reasons, with foster carers or adoptive parents. These children come from a variety of social and ethnic backgrounds and vary in age from babies to teenagers so the County Council need foster carers who reflect the whole social and ethnic mix of East Sussex.
