Countryliner Buses Update from ESCC

East Sussex County Council is pleased to be providing a near to normal service today on bus routes formerly provided by Countryliner.

The council learned late yesterday that Countryliner Sussex Ltd. had gone into administration, affecting a total of 14 routes in East Sussex.

A number of contingency arrangements with other local bus companies have been put into place, which mean around 1,000 school children who rely on Countryliner services are able to get to and from school.

These temporary arrangements with Stagecoach, Ham's Travel and Compass Travel are expected to remain in place until the County Council, working with operators, can find a long term solution. This could take some months.

Nick Skelton, Head of Transport and Operational Services said: "I'm really pleased we have been able to operate an almost normal service today for our customers and I'm sorry for any delays passengers may have faced. There are a few minor operating issue to resolve, such as drivers needing to familiarise themselves with new routes, but these will be ironed out over the next couple of days. I'd like to acknowledge the efforts of the team here, as well as Stagecoach, Ham's Travel and Compass Travel who worked late into the night to help us put our contingency plans in place."
