County kicks off £6m ‘next generation' development for Seaford

The start of work on a new £6m development for Seaford – the first of its kind in the county with a new library, social care day services and supported living flats – has been celebrated by East Sussex County Council.

Councillor Bill Bentley, lead member for adult social care, marked the start of the demolition work at the Warwick House site in Sutton Park Road this week.

The ‘next generation' development includes a new library with a café, independent living flats for residents with learning difficulties and new day care facilities in the heart of the town for local senior citizens. The complex is expected to be open for business in the first half of 2014.

Councillor Tony Freebody, lead member for community services, said: “Our libraries are at the heart of the community so it's fantastic to see work starting at the Warwick House site.

“The people of Seaford can look forward to the benefits of a brand new library and a greatly improved library service. It will be a wonderful building accessible to all and is another example of our multi-million pound investment in libraries across the county.”

Councillor Bill Bentley, lead member for adult social care, said: “This kind of development has never been built in East Sussex before so Seaford is leading the way with this exciting and revolutionary community building!

“The development will allow us to upgrade the older people's day service currently offered at Homefield Place so I am delighted to see work starting on site.

“The new, social care facilities will provide a real boost for both the clients and carers of our service, and for our own staff who will transfer to the building, once it is completed in the first half of 2014.”

The County Council has also recently published its latest newsletter for local people giving more details about the Warwick House development. The newsletter includes information about the project and also about the temporary library in Blatchington Road and day service at Homefield Place.
