Meet the team: Community Champion Annabelle West

Cllr Annabelle West takes on Community Services Brief again in the new Shadow team after a successful year holding the Shadow Portfolio Brief for Finance. This is in addition to her other responsibilities of being a member of the Licensing Committee, Grant Task Group, as well as being a non-executive Director of both Eastbourne Homes Limited and Wealden & Eastbourne Lifeline.

Cllr Annabelle West, who has represented Upperton Ward on Eastbourne Borough Council since being elected in 2011 has previously held the post of Shadow Portfolio for Community Services.

Following her appointment this week Annabelle said:

I am absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to serve in the Shadow Cabinet again by holding the Community Services Brief – this is truly where my heart is, for the community of Eastbourne.  With the changes to Housing Benefit and the new Universal Credit, it is going to be a particularly challenging time for families and look to engaging with different voluntary groups to see where we can help most with the limited resources that are available.

My role with Eastbourne Homes continues to give me first-hand opportunity to be part of the decision making process to ensure that our social housing really is the best, the services straight forward and easy to access to help improve the lives of our customers.   The quality of their life is extremely important to me for as an Assistant Pastor of a local church I know how difficult it can be for families struggling to survive on limited incomes. I am also pleased to continue my position on the Board of Wealden & Eastbourne Lifeline, together with the other additional responsibilities of office”.
