A service providing information and advice to families in East Sussex has entered the world of social media to make it easier for parents to get in touch.
East Sussex County Council's Information for Families service has launched a Facebook page to give families in the county another way of getting information and their questions answered.
The Information for Families Service provides families with a wide range of advice about services for children and families in the county including childcare, education, schools, special needs support, nurseries, health information, support groups and clubs, leisure activities and much more.
It is the first point of contact for the public for all children's service enquiries and between April and June 2012 it handled contacts, by phone or email, from 1,399 people.
Previously people have been able to access this information by phoning or emailing the team. Now, users of Facebook will be able to 'like' the Information for Families page and be kept up to date with information on events and activities while also having the opportunity to ask questions. Already more than 100 people have 'liked' the page.
Cllr Colin Belsey, the County Council's Lead Member for Children and Families, said: “Information for Families is a County Council service but it provides impartial advice, support and information and is therefore an important service for families in the county.”
He added that the team was there to help parents and families with any question they might have about services for children in East Sussex, and they could signpost people to many services that support families at the various stages within family life. This includes offering advice and information to parents of children with special needs or disabilities.
Cllr Belsey added: “We're always looking for ways to make our services more accessible and Facebook gives us a perfect opportunity to make it easy for families to be in touch with us. We know that a very large number of people use Facebook to keep in touch with eachother and also with clubs and groups they belong to. This new page means we're just one click of the 'like' button away!”
