Young people in Eastbourne have the chance to enter the jaws of the Dragon's Den on Monday 29 October and bid for cash for their own special projects.
Individuals and their youth groups will be able to book a ten minute slot from 11am to 3pm to persuade a team of TV type dragons to buy into their ideas. They can get as little as £25 to as much as £500 for proposals that could include improving an existing scheme, staging an event or starting something completely new.
Members of Eastbourne Youth Forum will make up the panel of dragons, who promise to be friendly. They are looking for exciting ideas that come from young people themselves which will help improve things to do and places to go in the local area. Bid funding comes from Eastbourne Youthbank which has been set up to encourage young people to play an active part in the community by having a say in how money is spent for their benefit.
People wanting to make a pitch in the Den must be between 11 and 19 years old and live in Eastbourne. They will need to fill in a simple application form which must be submitted by 22 October.
To qualify young people have to be able to say ‘yes' to the following:
- the project will benefit groups of young people (at least two or more individuals) living in Eastbourne
- the young people have a supporting organisation happy to help them put forward their ideas and help them carry them out
- the group can complete their project by the end of September 2013
- the project is about improving things to do and the places to go in Eastbourne.
Dragon's Den is taking place in the Winter Garden, Eastbourne as part of Eastbourne Youth Fair. There are lots of other events taking place from street-dance workshops to unicycling.
