Older People's Day 2012 – Carry on celebrating!

The Jubilee, the Olympics and Parlympics may be over, but the celebrations in East Sussex will continue with a whole range of events for Older People's Day 2012.

Held on 1 October, Older People's Day will be a real celebration, with lots of exciting things to do and outings for people to enjoy. So if you like belly dancing, Feng Shui, ‘silver surfing' on the Internet, yoga, even laughter therapy and much, much more, then get involved!

Not only will it be fun but it will provide opportunities to do things you may have never tried before, or to visit places you have never been. So look at the programme and see what is going on near you, because anyone can ‘Carry on celebrating' and join in the festivities.

Cllr Bill Bentley, the Lead Member for Adult Social Care, said: “There are going to be several weeks of exciting and different things going on in East Sussex. It will be fun, enjoyable, and educational and most of all a celebration of older people's lives and the whole of our community. I hope that lots of people go to the events and have a great time”.

East Sussex County Council is working with lots of groups to make sure things go well. This includes the East Sussex Seniors' Association, other Seniors' Forums, and community groups, who have all helped to put everything together.

Last year over 30 events took place, which showed that older people have a wide range of interests, from outdoor activities to learning new skills. More than 1,000 people took part.

This year there are even more things going on, starting now, running right through until late October and we hope even more people will come along. So look out for programmes at your local library and information centres or download them here:
