Commissioner joins staff from witness care units at annual conference

Commissioner Katy Bourne joined staff working in witness care units at their annual conference held at Slaugham Manor this week (Wednesday 5 December).

Mrs Bourne was elected Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner on a manifesto pledge to tackle domestic abuse; the theme of this year’s conference.

The Commissioner will be focusing on domestic abuse as a key priority in her first year in office, with the aim of increasing reporting through greater confidence and improvements in support and care to victims.

Commissioner Bourne said “Domestic abuse is still largely a hidden crime occurring behind closed doors. Sussex Police are already working hard to change this culture of violence. I will strengthen their efforts by working with other organisations to change attitudes and behaviour, as well as encouraging specialist training for police officers in dealing with domestic and sexual abuse.”
