Sussex based painter and printmaker, Tom Hammick comes to Towner this Saturday to talk about the inspirations behind his work and printmaking techniques.
The award winning contemporary art museum is currently showing Tom Hammick’s colour woodcut ‘Horse in Snow’ in the Bon Hiver exhibition. Hammick’s talk will give an interesting insight into the thought process behind his work and the artistic techniques he employs to achieve his striking images. His ambitious large scale prints, such as ‘Horse in Snow’, a recent acquisition to the Towner collection, often require vast presses and a team of four people to produce.
Hammick has an impressive art
background and his work is included in many public and private collections. He
has exhibited widely both in the UK and overseas, most recently showing his new
work at The Eagle Gallery in London. Hammick is a senior lecturer in Fine Art,
Painting and Printmaking at the University of Brighton, as well as a visiting
lecturer in Fine Art at University of Ulster and Nova Scotia College of Art and
Design.
Tom Hammick’s talk is on Saturday
23 February at 2pm. Tickets are £5 or £4 for concessions. Those with Towner and
Bluemonkeynet membership get in for £3.75.
