Entries are flooding in for the
9th Eastbourne Half Marathon which returns to Princes Park on Sunday 3 March and
with just two weeks left to go; runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are
urged to join in once more!
Already entries have topped last
year’s success which saw over 1400 people complete the race, including entries
from Belgium and Italy. Following some impressive runs in recent years, the
record for completing the course currently stands at 1 hour and 11 minutes, so
organisers are inviting runners to see if they can take on the challenge and
beat the current record in this year’s charitable race.
Taking in a 13 mile route along
Eastbourne’s fantastic seafront, the course includes a mile-long hill in Meads
and the scenic Sovereign Harbour. Younger runners can also join in the challenge
with a 1km race for under 12’s and a 2km race for under 17’s, making it a great
family event and everyone receives a medal at the end!
The event which is sponsored by
Reid+Dean, kicks off at Princes Park on Sunday 3 March at 10am and has become a
popular run for fitness fans, with many raising money for local charities with a
target this year of £10,000. Now in its 9th year, the event attracts
runners from all over the UK, and includes live music along the
route.
Since launching the event, The
half Marathon has raised an amazing £110,000 for local charities and this year
the event is proud to support ‘Chestnut Tree House’ and ‘Regain’ along with many
other local charities. This is in addition to local charities benefiting from
the many individual runners raising sponsorship.
Both junior and senior races will
start at Princes Park; 10am start for the main event whilst junior events will
both take place during the main event at 10.15am and 10.30am, with juniors
crossing the finish line in an exciting end at the main gantry.
Organisers are looking for
volunteers to help marshal the event. This would entail giving up a few hours in
the morning of the race, from 9.am – 1.00pm or whatever time volunteers can
spare. It is a great way to get involved with the event by; supporting the
runners, helping to ensure their safety and helping towards raising funds for
many charities.
