Star gazers will be inspecting the heavens at the Redoubt this weekend, as the historic venue celebrates BBC Stargazing Live with a free Star Party on Saturday 19 January.
Starting at 5pm, budding astronomers can discover the wonders of the universe including constellation patterns, star clusters, nebulae and far away galaxies, all through the telescopes of Eastbourne Astronomical Society.
With up to 200 people expected, the event is organised by both Eastbourne Astronomical Society and the Redoubt, using the unique setting and viewing possibilities from the gun platform. As well as discovering stars, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the surface of the moon and view planets under the guidance of experienced observers.
Families are welcome and warm clothing is recommended along with flasks of hot drinks. If weather and visibility is poor then a talk inside the Redoubt will replace star gazing activities.
The Star Party runs from 5 – 8pm on Saturday 19 January, with further events planned on 16 February and 16 March, and entry is free.
