The A22 Uckfield Bypass has been completely resurfaced following the completion of work between the Copwood roundabout and the East Sussex National Golf Course.
East Sussex County Council road bosses say that the work, which was completed just before Christmas, was the final section of the Bypass to be resurfaced, helping to make the road both safer and quieter.
Over the last three years, the whole section of the road, from Blackdown roundabout to just south of Peartree Lane, has been resurfaced, part of a £30m programme to improve the existing network right across the County.
Councillor Carl Maynard, Lead Member for Transport & Environment said: “We'd like to thank drivers, and local residents and businesses in the Uckfield area for their help and patience during the times we've had to work on the Bypass.
“During the resurfacing work we've laid nearly ten thousand tons of special material that provides a quieter running surface and better skid resistance on the approaches to roundabouts and on the roundabouts themselves.
“The contracts were carried out by some of the big road construction companies but we also used local Sussex businesses to provide various services so the work helped to boost the local economy as well”.
