Appeal for volunteers at country park visitor centre

Vollunteers are being sought to welcome visitors to an East Sussex beauty spot.

The visitors centre at Seven Sisters Country Park, between Seaford and Eastbourne, opens for its new season on Monday, April 1.

The centre is seeking new recruits to join its team of volunteers, to meet and greet visitors and help to run the on-site shop.

Rachel Solomons is volunteer officer at East Sussex County Council, which runs the park, covering a 690-acre site of chalk cliffs, meandering river valley and open chalk grassland.

She said: “The park is one of the most stunning natural areas of the county and attracts visitors from far and wide.

“Our volunteers get a great sense of satisfaction from helping people get the best out of their visit and from meeting people from all different backgrounds.

“They don't need to be ‘expert' on the park as they can pick up lots of information from the displays in the centre – good communication skills and enthusiasm are more important to us.

“Volunteering is a great way to pick up new skills and knowledge in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, to meet new people and have fun.”

Volunteers are needed to cover the centre's opening hours of 10.30am to 4.30pm, seven days a week, which is broken into two sessions from 10.30am to 1.30pm and 1.30 to 4.30pm.

Organisers are looking for a minimum commitment of six hours a month from its volunteers, who receive a full induction, training and ongoing support.

The park, named after the famous Seven Sisters which are its most famous feature, forms part of the chalk cliffs of the Sussex Heritage Coast, one of Britain's finest unspoilt coastlines.

The site is a magnet for nature lovers, walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers and canoeists.

Anyone interested in volunteering at the visitor centre is asked to call Rachel Solomons on 01323 463993 or email rachel.solomons@eastsussex.gov.uk
